"I would like to be part of this class action suit. MetLife got me too. I was supposed to be paid 60% of my salary which I applied for threw my employer, no MetLife rep , just human resource person. I was told if I become disable I will be paid 60% of salary, Once I was approved I was told that I had to apply for SSD when I ask the rep why when I get more from MetLife she said that was the policy and if I don't I will be denied, then when I first was denied from SSD MetLife said I had to appeal. MetLife recommend a attorney , me being so stupid went with the one they recommend. When they saw it was taking to long, they said I had to take classes so I can get a sit down job I was happy to take these classes, when I first ask about it they said I wasn't able to but then I was. Now MetLife is telling me I owe them 25000 bucks. I told there bill collector I don't have it he told me to apply for a loan, I told him I was on disability that I don't have the funds not even to make payment arrangement. I know I can't fight MetLife, but I been doing research, how can a company keep doing this to people, if you brought into the insurance from your job they should know you salary, and why would you keep overpaying people . How can I join this class action suit? They even check my credit report and told me my last car payment. I'm trying to keep my head over water. I told him I have been living off my credit cards trying to make min payment so I can keep using them for emergency. He said they need there money. MetLife Horror Stories
I was denied disability on a policy I had paid for for 13 years. Possibly 23 years but I am uncertain if my previous company had the policy with them. I have severe depression, fibromyalgia, diabetes, three ruptured back disk, myalgia from a fusion of two neck disks, am in constant pain. The company told me I could not work and take pain killers and Met Life said I was not disabled. I would like to be included in the class action if possible. My Met Life policy said I would receive uo to 66 and 2/3 of my pay at disability. It has paid nothing. I live in Tennessee.

My mother has an active, current, long term health care policy with Metlife, thorough AARP. This company has been very difficult to work with, although my mother is living in an approved Assisted living facility, we have not received any assistance whatsoever. I hope there is a better long term health care insurance provider than METLIFE.

Since my disability, requiring transplant, MetLife has made my life miserable. I have fought tooth and nail since day one to get my disability and I have finally reached the straw that broke "my back". It took over 2 months to get my first disability check at which time I had to borrow from friends and relatives to keep a roof over my head. By the time I received my short term disability I was in long term disability which took another 2 months + and was approved until July 2008, I receive back pay then 1 month pay to be paid to date in late December. As of today I received my January 2007 check with a deduction of most of the check claiming I was receiving social security and this is the difference. I have filed for SS disability but have not been approved to date. Upon calling MetLife I was informed that they ASSUME that I would be getting this amount from SS even though I have not been approved and that just in case I was receiving SS they deduct this amount so that I would not be overpaid. These people are playing with my life as though I am nothing. They tell me they don't have the supervisors phone number when they transfer me to my caseworker of course all I get is voice mail. They have me over a barrel. If I don't get my check I cannot pay my rent, utilities, etc. But most importantly I will not be able to get my medications. Is this legal?

Absolutely do not buy Met Life disability. I bought it thru Kindred health care. In 2000 I became disabled. I was not worried because I had purchased Met Life who promised me 30% of my income as long as I was disabled They missed payments claiming lack of paperwork I finally started Fedexing them because then I could prove they Had received it.
They paid me although hassling me the entire time until Hurricane Katrina. Then suddenly they claimed They no longer had to pay me because I got social security and they wanted to be paid back. I went from $40,000/year while working to $24,000 a year and now because of them I am trying to make it on $13,000/yr. I had to spend my 401K, I have no money for hot water, I run out of food by the 3rd week of the month. They have ruined My life, AND I Urge you DO NOT BECOME THEIR CLIENT OR THEY WILL CHEAT YOU AS WELL!!!

The same thing happened to us. My dad went on disability for Parkinsinism. The cancelled our disability because we were getting pinching and social security. They wanted the money back and took the money we were going to get for selling our house. We got nothing from our house. Because of them we have been screwed and in bad problems ever since. MetLife denied my claim this past summer and caused me to go 12 weeks without pay while on medical leave from my job at CitiBank. When they finally exhausted all possible excuses to pay, they settled with a lump sum payment that was taxed at such a high rate that my compensation was reduced by over a third. During that time I had to borrow from friends, spend all my savings, and run up my credit cards just to keep my mortgage and utilities paid. I am still trying to recover from the loss of income. In November I fell from a ladder and sprained my shoulder and neck. The doctor put me on leave for 12 days to recover. Naturally, MetLife denied my claim and refused to even explain the denial except to say they had "received an invoice from my doctor's office". It took two weeks to work out that they were refusing to pay the $10.33 fee for the transfer of my medical records. My doctor's office said this was the first time they had ever heard of MetLife NOT paying this fee. So, in order to deny my claim, they changed their policy requiring me to drive all the way across town to drop of a check at my HMO's billing office. After a month, I have yet to be paid for my covered medical leave. Is there no one who can listen to complaints about such awful service? My own HR department simply tells me I must "manage my own case" whenever on medical leave. Who "manages the case" for people who live alone and are too sick to constantly call MetLife for denial of their claim? If someone wants to start a class action law suit, I'll be happy to participate.

I was employed at a major U.S. Manufacturer. Two years ago I suffered irreversable injuries to my spine that requred several surgeries. I was forced to leave employment for my disability which I have been awarded benefits from Social Security Disability.
Upon the inception of my permanent disability I filed for benefits from Social security and from Metlife Insurance Company. After two years of submitting medical proof and three subsequent denial for benefits from MetLife Insurance company, I am left with no benefits from MetLife. Benefits I paid for monthly as an insurance policy in case I became disabled and could not work. This policy was in place and MetLife refuses to honor the claim. I have been through three MetLife appeals and met with over a half dozen Attorneys. Not one Attorney can take the case because the dollor recovery is not substantial enough to fight MetLife for benefits in Court. METLIFE knows these dynamics of the legal system and in my research has denied benefits for disability to many others who have submitted very legitimate claims
BUYER BEWARE. The Metlife Disability coverage you are paying for is worthless. I submit to each of you who do business with METLIFE to cancel your policies and clearly send a message to this Company that it is not acceptable practice to deny legitimate claims.

I paid in long term disability from my employer SEARS . I was counting on it if I ever needed it. One day I did need it. I have DDD of my neck & spine & FIbromyalgia. I got my Social Sercurity & for 2 yrs METLIFE paid me. I got divorced & really counted on theses incomes to be with me to pay my bills. One day METLIFE comes in with I'm not able to draw any more. My health did not improve, more than any thing got worst. I have called lawyers in all states, I too can not get any one to take my case. It seems to be a scam with all involed , including ERISCA . I had one lawyer tell me he wouldn't handle it because the judges was wrapped up in it too. Now let me ask how fair is this world ? Us that worked all our lives, now disability, still get messed over. Is there anyone out there to help us ? I will go to my grave fighting METLIFE, you can depend on that. I am letting everyone I can to tell them not to buy it, it is a waste of your money. Put your money in a bank & save it, it's safer that way. Watch for the crooks & scams of METLIFE.
A MetLife employee point of view!
I went to work there. The first thing they did was give me a fraudulent license. They broke the law the first week I got there. The second thing they did was give me company accounts. Customers. I was to call them; and tell them I am their new agent with the MO of not really account updating but to sell them something new. The second week I found a customer who has lost close to $80,000 in his account. He begged me to service the account and visit him. He even offered to buy something if I just help him with his account. 'What a nice guy' I told the md about this retired gov't worker and the MD completely belittled him and said he's crazy. I told the MD the rest of his funds are going to disapear and the MD said 'he's crazy, he thinks he was in the CIA. Tell him it was a mistake and everything fine.' This guy has already lost $40,000 due to account misprepresentation; and he was about to lose the rest. Then I realized; if a company rips people off for $5, they have to rip off a million people to get to 5 million. But if it rips people off for $100,000, they only have to rip off 50. All in all he was just another person sold a vanishing premium policy and had his account churned. Many don't know but Metlife lost a class action case where they misleaded all about 7 1/2 million customers a few years ago, they also lost a class action case where they charged african americans a different premium, and their president from the 50's said white and black people shouldn't live together. It's a real wonder to me that people don't line up to the building with torches but in any case since all of this, plus the fraudulent license they gave me, and the fact that I wasn't paid what was promised, and other co-workers quarries about being ripped off for commissions they were promised, I would say this is the worst company in the world. They also take the salespeople's commission and hold them in this pool; they pay them 10% of thier commissions at a time. Most workers think this is an industry norm since this was their first recruited company. But hopefully they one day find that it's a big joke and every other company in the industry pays their people right away. It's just one more big scam on their own people. This is the worst company I have ever heard of and I am doing everything I can to put them out of business. Their financial product which is linked to their insurance product is shown in an illustration as to grow by their extraordinary divident being met. But what many people in court soon find out is that no matter how well the company does they never have to meet that dividend; and in any case even though they are sold this policy with a caring hand in their own home with their family there, the company has no obligation to the customer in terms of fullfilling a promise sold in good faith. In court they'll also say that no matter what the account rep said to the person, doesn't matter.
Perhaps someone from MetLife would be kind enough to help us get this issue sorted out.
